Composing From the Opposite Shore
We are thrilled to present a “behind the scenes” look at how composers create their music, featuring special guest Dr. Rica Narimoto, joining us from Japan! She and BBQ member Thomas Kent Hurd will reveal their inner workings, inspirations, and secrets!

We encourage you to attend the memorial concert and contribute to the scholarship fund. The performance will also be live-streamed.
We’re thrilled that a piece written for us will be featured at a special concert series at Juilliard, “Focus! 2015 | Nippon Gendai Ongaku: Japanese Music Since 1945”
The Sound of New York, by Dr. Rica Narimoto, will be performed Thursday January 29.
She had the idea of using the materials from the ambient noises that she heard in New York, “a town with many sounds. I often went out with a recording machine to record the interesting sounds. The five movements are snapshots from my life in New York City.”
Dr. Narimoto will also take part in pre-concert panel discussion on Tuesday January 27.
The Sound of New York, featured on our album From the Opposite Shore, is quickly becoming a favorite with our audiences. It will be part of our repertoire for upcoming performances including CU Pendulum, Boulder Arts Week, and Estes Park Music Festival. Visit our Performances page for more info.
Congratulations Dr. Narimoto!
